Stopping Smoking For People With A Mental Illness

Marriage, travel, writing, publishing, being published, the gastric lap banding surgery, a book, art and children have been the best things which have happened to me.

I have lived with a family who've moved frequently, also in a number of countries, including P.N.G., Vanuatu, England, France, Switzerland, Cambodia, and around Australia, until settling in Tasmania.  My upbringing was middle class Australian.  Both my parents are professional people.  I have married a lovely bloke, and he's supported me thick and thin, while still allowing me that "growing up" stage, in the real world type of experience.  I have two beautiful sons, Aaron and Nathan (12 and 10).  They keep me alive, and Tony gives me a reason to live.

I am very shy, mainly due to my illness and side effects of the drugs I take, which make me very tired.

I had the gastric lap banding surgery done in May 2005, with an overall great success.  My size has gone from a 26 top/ 22 bottom to an average size 16.

A big worry to some people with heavy medications or have a sedentary lifestyle, is weight gain, during the immediate time after getting used to not smoking, and while you adjust to not smoking.  I gained 25 kgs, and have lost 15 kgs again.  Currently I'm a size 16.  Firstly I would suck on lolli pops, then gum, then nothing except a black coffee with sweetener!

Out of all this I've taught myself to publish a newsletter (The Mind Theme, now abandoned).

Since another updating this site, I'm happy to say that I've completed another art unit.  Totally into art right now (before assessments it's best to say it now).

MATURITY IS DEFINED WHEN A CHILD OR ADULT REALISES THAT LIFE ISN'T FAIR.

Look at a daisy, closely.  Inspect it, taste it, feel it's texture, touch it's pollen.  Then look at a dirty cigarette butt.  Which one is the most perfect, vital, beautiful, natural?  Are cigarettes a  part of nature's life cycle?  How relevant are they really, when a daisy, amongst so many other other daisies is less appreciated than a smoke-stubbed cigarette?

  • I am interested in supporting those with a mental illness to give up smoking - by choice.
  • I want to address the potential weight gain people experience while giving up smoking.
  • I am an advocate of intensive Federal Government involvement for those with a mental illness wishing to stop smoking.
